Altitude changes the arithmetic. Air at six thousand feet is roughly eighty percent as dense as air at sea level, which means a furnace derates, a condenser rejects less heat, and equipment sized off a sea-level table will be wrong in both directions — short-cycling in the shoulder seasons and struggling at design temperature.
The other thing Colorado does is swing. A forty-degree change inside one day is normal here. Systems that get specified for an average never track a climate like that, so we design around the extremes at both ends and balance for the rooms people actually use.
